Drawing, sharing and learning: why I love running illustration workshops

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work as an artist and illustrator is the opportunity to share what I know and what I love with other people. For some time now, I’ve been lucky enough to run illustration workshops for both young people and adults, and I can say in all sincerity that every experience has been unique, inspiring and deeply rewarding.

For me, a workshop isn’t just a space for teaching techniques or talking about materials. Above all, it’s a place to share a passion for drawing, to learn together, laugh at our mistakes, celebrate our successes and, almost without realising it, create a small community of people united by art.

Every group is different; every person brings something special to the table. I love seeing how, in just a few hours, the barriers of ‘I can’t draw’ or ‘I’m not creative’ are broken down, and ideas, styles, characters and worlds begin to emerge. And whilst I’m teaching, I’m learning too: new ways of seeing, of communicating, of connecting. Because that’s the thing about art: it always has something new to offer us.

What’s more, something magical happens in these workshops:

. Amidst laughter, ink blots, chats about comics, illustrators, techniques and anecdotes, bonds are formed. And that, to me, is just as valuable as any finished piece of work.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or have been drawing for a while: the important thing is to come along with a desire to enjoy yourself, to experiment and to let art surprise us.

Dibujar, compartir y aprender: por qué amo impartir talleres de ilustración

Uno de los aspectos más enriquecedores de mi trabajo como artista e ilustrador es la oportunidad de compartir lo que sé y lo que amo con otras personas. Desde hace un tiempo, he tenido la suerte de impartir talleres de ilustración tanto para jóvenes como para adultos, y puedo decir con total sinceridad que cada experiencia ha sido única, inspiradora y profundamente gratificante.

Para mí, un taller no es solo un espacio para enseñar técnicas o hablar sobre materiales. Es, sobre todo, un lugar para compartir la pasión por el dibujo, para aprender juntos, reírnos de nuestros errores, celebrar nuestros aciertos y, casi sin darnos cuenta, crear una pequeña comunidad de personas unidas por el arte.

Cada grupo es diferente, cada persona aporta algo especial. Me encanta ver cómo, en solo unas horas, se rompen las barreras del “no sé dibujar” o “no soy creativo”, y empiezan a surgir ideas, estilos, personajes y mundos. Y mientras enseño, yo también aprendo: nuevas formas de ver, de comunicar, de conectar. Porque el arte tiene eso: siempre tiene algo nuevo que ofrecernos.

Además, algo mágico sucede en estos talleres:

. Entre risas, manchas de tinta, charlas sobre cómics, ilustradores, técnicas y anécdotas, se crean lazos. Y eso, para mí, vale tanto como cualquier obra terminada.
